Curriculum organisation
- The curriculum is delivered through cross curricular themes and topics.
- Meaningful links and connections between subjects create a context for learning.
- Topics are engaging, challenging, creative and fun!
- There are 4 phases within our school. Early Years Foundation Stage or EYFS (Reception class), Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and Year 2), Lower Key Stage 2 (Year 3 and Year 4) and Upper Key Stage 2 (Year 5 and Year 6).
- The curriculum is delivered on a 2 year rolling programme. Teachers in each phase plan and work together.
- Social, moral, spiritual and citizenship education (SMSC) is woven into our topics and is linked to our assembly theme for the term. This will be shown on our termly topic planning.
- Maths and Literacy are taught everyday.
- Literacy forms the core of our topic, creating lots of opportunities for writing across all areas of the curriculum.
- Key areas of literacy, such as spelling, phonics and some aspects of grammar will be taught discretely.
- Children are taught in mixed ability, single age class groups. In response to the needs of the class, children may be grouped in different ways to ensure the best learning for all. Sometimes this will include ability grouping or setting for maths or spelling.
