Local offer – SEND

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

From September 2014 there were a number of changes to SEND.

The Local Offer – helping people to understand what services are available

There is a ‘local offer’ that sets out in one place information about the support and services available for children and young people with SEND.

Education, Health and Care Plans Since 1 September 2014 Statements of Special Educational Needs and Learning Difficulty Assessments (Section 139 Assessments) were replaced with Education, Health and Care Plans. The Children and Families Act 2014 did not reduce the legal responsibility for children and young people’s SEND needs.

What does this mean for schools?

As part of the Local Offer, all schools and county council’s must publish on their website information about what support there is for children with SEND in the school and cluster.

“The progress of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs is good. Their specific learning needs are identified promptly and they receive well-targeted support from teaching assistants that have been trained effectively. This has enabled these pupils to achieve well, especially in reading and writing. – Ofsted, May 2015
