At Acle St Edmund C of E Primary School we believe that learning should be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for everyone; it should be fun, yet challenging, leading to the highest possible standards in the key areas of literacy and mathematics, whilst also enabling pupils to access and enjoy the full range of foundation subjects within the National Curriculum.
We provide a broad 
and balanced curriculum, with many enrichment activities, designed to support the learning and progress of each child within the school.
Through our teaching we equip children with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to be able to make informed choices about the important things in their lives. We believe that appropriate teaching and learning experiences help children to lead happy and rewarding lives, and develop an active interest and fascination in the world around them.

The National Curriculum
The National Curriculum sets out what children should know, understand and do at each level in the following subjects: English, maths, ccience, information technology, design technology, history, geography, music, art, physical education, personal, social and health education.

Our CREATIVE Curriculum
At Acle St Edmund we aim to deliver the National Curriculum in the most exciting and engaging way possible. Our curriculum is designed to develop subject knowledge skills and understanding and develop key social and learning skills. We plan topics and themes which will engage children and make learning meaningful. These themes draw together different parts of the National Curriculum. There will be lots of opportunities for children to use new technology to support their learning. We are also committed to developing the Arts, school sport and environmental awareness through our curriculum. We have also been involved in international schools projects.
We believe our curriculum helps children to develop the academic, technological and personal skills they need to take an active part in the world throughout their lives.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
In the Foundation Stage the children learn through the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. This play centred approach helps the children to explore and learn about the environment around them, under the direction of staff or by self-initiated activities.
Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and Year 2)
On entry to Key Stage 1 the children are encouraged to continue their learning journey through play, before moving into a more formalised style of learning when appropriate. Topic based approaches are used to create purposeful links across many areas of the curriculum.
Key Stage 2 (Years 3 – 6)
At our school Key Stage 2 is divided into two phases, Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6. The curriculum is creatively planned to make use of specialist skills and knowledge. This promotes an engaging and stimulating environment for the children to learn about a range of topics. Themes allow for class based, or group approaches, to learning. There are daily class based literacy lessons, as there are throughout the whole of the school, and sets for maths. This helps to promote progress throughout the key stage.
Extra-Curricular and Enrichment Activities
Our children get to go on many interesting and educational trips during their time at Acle. We also enrich their learning by giving them opportunities to exhibit their work in a variety of different ways.
We have strong community and cluster links and the children are able to take part in a range of cluster based activities and competitions. A range of community visitors come to our school to support learning, for example, fire-fighters, health-workers and story-tellers. All Key Stage 2 classes have the opportunity to take part in a range of residential trips which encourage team-building skills and develop their knowledge of environmental science. We also offer a range of extra-curricular school clubs for Key Stage 1 and 2 children at lunchtimes and after school and our school council and PE leaders help to organise house competitions which take place at lunchtimes.
